Well, i'll try to make it short: former student Raskolnikov thinks that there are super-people who have the right to kill others if it will lead to greater good -> He kills an old female money-lender coz he thinks he will give her money to the poverty, but after the crime he runs away, hides all stolen things and falls ill. A. Fyodor Dostoevsky is generally acknowledged to be one of the founding fathers of modern existentialism, comparable to Soren Kierkegaard and Friedrich Nietzsche. His novel "Notes from the Underground" is generally considered to be the first literary work of existentialism.

A. Well for one, Dostoyevsky was also in a lot of debt, as was Rodya. spoiler! And the scene where the horse is being beaten by all the townspeople? Nietzsche was said to have had a similar episode that severely affected his life. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. :D

Q. How many times is the word "pale" used in Fyodor Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment"?
Asked by thriller_06 - Thu Nov 27 23:53:23 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. According to The Literature Network - which permits you to search for a word or phrase in any of the public domain works they carry - the number is 31 (one chapter has the word twice) and the word "paler" is used once. May I ask why? I can't guarantee that every single reference has been included, but it's a pretty decent search engine. (You may want to count the number, yourself, just to check that I didn't miss one - or miscount.)

A. I don't have that kind of link, but there are a number of online study guides for Crime and Punishment, and quite a few other resources on the web that can help you with this novel. Most of them have quite a bit of good information. Have a look at these sites, and you should get some help with your work. If you do a search for Crime and Punishment here in the Yahoo Answers search window you will find that quite a few questions have been asked here about this book, so that is another source of help.

Has anyone read 'Crime and Punishment' or any other works by Fyodor Dostoevsky?
Q. I've read 'Crime and Punishment' and thought it was an absolutely great piece of writing! None of my friends have read nor do they have any plans of doing so... so I was wondering if anyone else has. I'm extremely interested in psychology and the style in which Dostoesvky has portrayed the various characters is mind-blowing! I just wanted to know i I'm the only (geek) to have read it and if anyone has any viewpoints to share.

A. I've read "The idiot" "The gambler" and "Memories from underground" and he was one of my mayor influences to become a psychologist. He continues surprising me with the way he can understand people's motivations, dark desires, fears, and the (sometimes stupid, or useless) way they act.

an original russian re-print by Fyodor Dostoevsky (written in Russian), could it be worth something?
Q. I was unpacking boxes at the bookstore I volunteer at, and I found a REALLY old book, written in Russian, and I know it was by Fyodor Dostoevsky because I did a report on him for school. could this be worth something? like, it will probably be sold for like $10-$15 dollors. I AM going to but it this sat. whe I go in again, but, how much could it be worth? it seems to be printed around when he was alife (late 1800's).
Asked by TREVOR - Thu Jul 30 09:34:52 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It can't be original and be a reprint, the two words contradict each other. It should have a copyright page, if it doesn't odds are it isn't as old as you wish it would be. Most often books lacking that page are just printed without paying for the privilege, because it is out of copyright or the publishers just don't care (sometimes because they're communists.) Is your estimate that it was printed in the 1800s actually based on anything or just a straight guess? Be aware that most books from the 19th century ar not instantly highly valuable.
